“Docile Body,” is a continuation of Mads' research within embodiment theory, cybernetics, and puppetry. It is an animatronic triptych consisting of disembodied mechanical movements built to confront himself with his body’s unconscious, repeating, and self-soothing movements. Through these mechanical interfaces, the line between human and machine becomes blurry, and the choreography of the animatronics becomes a movement between disconnection and conformity.
The animatronics perform exaggerated and amplified gestures, each with the goal of invoking a visceral reaction and prompting an investigation of embodiment. Their crude mechanisms and material properties reveal a sense of fragility, tension, and release. As a whole, the triptych functions as a self-portrait, a disassembled puppet. “Docile Body” is an exploration of the interface between the megamachine and Mads' body, positioning him in a liminal space between the real and the artificial, the organic and the machine, the individual and the crowd.
