Animism is a way of experiencing the world that acknowledges the life in the beings around us. Now those beings are cooking pots. Come listen closely to them, maybe they have something to share with us.
Tom de Kok ‘’also known as DIDYMUS’’ is a multifaceted Dutch artist working in the disciplines of music, science and sound art. His work often reflects on deep human connections to the sonic world, psychological curiosities, and the mysteries of the animal realm.
His research spans a wide array of subjects, from the harmonic overtone series, nostalgia and bird sounds, to more unusual explorations like Swiss cowbells, cooking acoustics, and cat fights. Tom is particularly drawn to the study of animism, kitsch, and the anthropomorphism of sound. Tom's works include claustrophobic tunnel environments, animistic deep listening performances, absurd sound installations and playful kinetic creatures.
As a music producer, he crafts experimental electronic and acoustic compositions in his home studio where he also makes works for film, theater and games. His work ranges from lo-fi nostalgic ambient and wonky hip-hop beats to extroverted, genre-bending pop, all characterized by minimalist and eccentric sound design.
