'29'

In my final year, I researched the concept of the front door as a carrier for stories of the past. Project ’29’ is an homage to my childhood front door. Evolving beyond its practical function, this heavily ornamented front door became the root of my observations and led me to both my theoretical research as well as this physical outcome.

At the base of ’29' lie various common ornaments, taken from an old catalog used by my grandparents to create our front door. Through the technique of extruding, I have transformed these ornaments into new bodies. In doing so, the extrusions symbolize the elongation and bending of time, evoking a transgenerational narrative and hidden stories through sculptural form. The once pliable, soft, and fluid material is now hardened and permanently shaped into its new self; ultimately celebrating the coming together of generations and their influence on my ongoing practice.
