The inital source of inspiration for this installation and performance was my fathers shelf unit which acquired in the 1980's in the former German Democratic Republic - a place that does not exist on maps anymore but in memories, conversations and objects of the past.
A memory is constructed. We choose what we remeber and what we forget -often in service of the present and the formation of identity. This work attempts to explore the place of eastern memories in todays western contexts.
Series Untitled
The series of drawings document the experience of the body working with material, specifically wood. Just like our hands, it responds to temperature, humidity, gravity and chemicals - a shared sensitivity between two types of matter.
