Circus

There is a common element that divides the paper-thin belief system between what we think is a phenomenon and what we think is the truth. It is a common element of perception born of inner desire. Desires like to echo in the unspoken, the ineffable. I work in a non linear way, trying to create images that function as an association game that links to the human psyche, working on different levels of the subconscious.

GRADUATION PROJECT

Circus

Spirituality and sensuality are experiences that cannot be translated. Often being considered to be seperate entities, kept apart out of courtesy. We tend to keep them private, under the surface, separated from the everyday. However, in imagery and art God and sensuality have been more connected in visualisation than anything else ever before. They define what makes us human and answer to the depths of our desires. We tend to keep them private, under the surface, separated from the everyday.

THESIS

The Sacred Gaze

Iconic images, serve as a form of salvation, a form, where the mind and soul can reach an understanding...or wander, through an encounter with what exceeds speech. Maybe because we are so in search for a greater meaning, we tend to lose ourselves in our spirituality in hope to achieve an answer to our greater questions. Images offer us a reflective attitude by instigating an internal dialogue. Enforcing as well as providing a space to contemplate. My thesis explores the substances that together shape and provide an internal experience, linking to the power that photography has in generating those experiences and the role of photography in tackling and talking about the ineffable.
