In absence of the sun

I am interested in subjects that I cannot fully understand or explain. Subjectivity plays a big role in the interpretation of my work. This subjective layer is a big and important source for inspiration.

I mainly work with representations of the not immediately visible but tangible state of being. The state of mind, loneliness, loss, disconnection and forms of isolations are important themes and recurring trough images of objects and landscapes.

My photography contains a certain void, accessible to everyone in different ways depending on their state of being. The primary focus is on the unpleasant feelings that emptiness can cause.

In addition to being a visual artist, I am also a social worker. I work with people with a mental disability.

GRADUATION PROJECT

In absence of the sun

On my birthday, I lost someone dear to me.

The sadness that came with it, resulted in a vicious circle of longing. Because of this I felt disconnected, wandering around in my thoughts and memories. 'In Absence Of The Sun' is a visual catalog that revolves around my experience with loss. I question the level in which I hold on to all the losses of my loved ones and use it to create images that explore this sentiment. Each image is reflecting a new association of the absence of someone dear to me. In this project, I use photography as a tool to navigate my way through the stages of letting go and trying to find comfort in solitude.
