“My croissant had just been stolen. Looking up, I spotted the thief circling above me: a bird! How did it dare steal my breakfast and roam so confidently through human territory? Or was it really my territory to begin with...?”
What we call ‘wildlife’ is not somewhere distant or separate from us. It is already here, sharing the same streets, rooftops, and skies. We often imagine the city as a space designed for humans alone. Yet birds have always been part of urban life, finding shelter, food, and nesting opportunities among concrete, steel, and brick.
Why would I, as a human, design for birds questions who gets to belong in the city. What if birds were considered fellow citizens? Designing for birds becomes a way of exploring coexistence, care, and our shared responsibility toward the lives that exist alongside our own.
