“If you know, you know.” /IYKYK is an interactive installation that takes memory as something fluid, circulating through stories, symbols, and digital traces. How can hidden metaphors and encrypted communication become strategies for meaning to survive within radical spaces?
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Beverly experienced that the space of expression is filtered or suppressed both online and offline. She investigates how symbols, lighthearted and fictional narratives can function as resilient forms of communication.
The series of water fountains is inspired by decorative fountains commonly found in Asian Chinese households, associated with prosperity and good fortune. “Be water, my friend,” references Bruce Lee’s philosophy, where water serves as both material and metaphor, evoking fluidity and transformation. The work reflects how symbols and narratives shift across contexts while accumulating layered meanings over time.
Through the interplay between physical and virtual elements, each fountain contains a fictional narrative inspired by personal experiences, collective events, memories from Hong Kong, and digital space. Through playful symbolism and storytelling, viewers are invited to connect fragments, reflecting on how memory and meanings persist through subtle forms of expression.
