“DIVINE” focuses on the artificial nature of femininity. Drawing from my upbringing in classical ballet and the traditional cultural environment of my hometown in Slovakia, this collection explores how ideals of femininity are taught through discipline and repetition, while simultaneously being presented as effortless and natural.
The collection translates these ideas into garments that reshape and subtly restrict the body. Much like ballet, where years of discipline and physical effort are concealed beneath an image of grace, the silhouettes impose limitations on movement while maintaining an appearance of ease. The shape language of the collection was informed by a book of watercolor bird illustrations from my childhood in Slovakia. Through collage, these illustrations were then transformed into silhouettes that subtly extend and distort the body, reinforcing the collection’s exploration of discipline behind everyday femininity.
Materiality plays a central role in reinforcing this tension. Soft nude tulles, glossy satins, and draped knitwear evoke the grace, lightness, and romanticism associated with ballet, while black synthetic materials, sharp vinyl surfaces, and high-shine finishes reference the unapologetic and provocative nature of Divine. This figure of unapologetic femininity serves as a muse throughout the collection and informs its title. Divine refers both to this empowered feminine archetype and to the underlying nature of femininity itself—revealed not as something innate, but as something consciously constructed and performed.
The project was further developed through collaborations with KABK students from Graphic Design, Photography, and Textile departments, contributing to the realization of its prints, materials, and visual identity.
