Andrew Kmitas and I make things together. Sometimes he writes me stories. One of them is about Paul, who camped in a clearing in the Scheveningen forest. I go to this location and collect objects from the ground, the traces of the people who have lived here. I metal cast these to solidify them, to elevate them from the dirt.

Piecing together a fragmented narrative, I interpret Andrew’s experience of homelessness through re-enactments of the routines he does to stay safe and unnoticed:

With string and cans he constructs a noise trap.

With his thumb and pinkie he measures the angle of a door.

Hide and Seek is one of these things. It’s an installation and publication containing images, texts, aluminium casts, as well as a painting by Andrew. It’s a map of connections between me, Andrew, and the remnants of a sleeping spot.
