Between thread & vector, the letter takes on a new skin. To draw a letter is to embrace fluidity, curves’ flow, vectors stretch, ideas moving at the speed of thought. To embroider a letter is to slow everything down. Each form is built patiently, cross by cross, within the strict logic of the grid. This project speaks about the relationship between craft & digital, but also about time, as well as family generations. The name Heline is the combination of ‘Hélène’ & ‘Maryline’ – my great-grandmother & my mother – both embroiderers. It’s a type family composed of 10 different styles (vector & bitmap) that have influenced each other in the process.
