Within this work I am mapping my own personal history of generational displacement through combining images of my family archive with public archival documents relating to pre-independence Surinamese liberation movements. Creating connections by putting this intimate history in context of a broader one. By sharing books, recipes and sensorial aspects that are part of this cultural heritage.
With the installation I strives to create a space where exchange of knowledge can be practiced through this variation of elements. Making space for engagement, sharing and learning. The delicate framework is held up by strong pillars made of Kwie Kwie. A prehistorical fish living in Surinamese waters which became resilient to its predators because of its armor-plated skin.
