GRADUATION PROJECT

Orient orientation 2020

My graduation project was the journey from cultural landscape to the design methodology; from the resonating with a youtube film of floating carp in the water tank to the moment of seeing traditional painting of a carp jumping toward the sun. Those moments led me to think of a coiled spring as initial material, and finally reached the fully hand-crafted gesture inspired by the manufacturing process of the coil itself. Writing, hanging, rolling, rippling, jumping, all the visual apparition from the folk painting were derived and used for figuration. Western and eastern, sculpting and design, industrial production and craftsmanship, even Netherlands and Korea, all the borderlines of my creative universe have been mixed and revealed as an identity. I pray this creation will be the talisman of life that protects curiosity and creativity as a designer.
