In Greek philosophy aether is seen as the fifth element. An invisible force that raises a lot of questions. For this project Marianne studied the life and work of three artists who give her a notion of aether: the painter Mark Rothko, the composer Arvo Pårt and the poet Henriëtte Roland Holst. In her studio Marianne worked further with these notions and translated it through paint. Marianne has come to see aether as a creating energy that sets something in motion. Aether breathes through everything and is connected with the sound of silence. It's in everyday life.
