Inspired by chinoiserie, the European fascination with an imagined China during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, this project reverses the historical gaze and reconstructs an imagined fever on the Netherlands. Fragments of Dutch Delft tiles and Dutch elemetns are transformed and reconstructed into new objects, landscapes, and instruments for looking. The project demonstrates how misunderstanding can become a mechanism through which new realities and new forms of coexistence emerge.
Dutchoiserie ends up with a question:
How much of what we think we know is built from fragments?
