“Suburban Tail” tells the fictional story of the third generation of rats living in a tower in the outskirts of a city. Their behaviour resembles that of humans, although they still have some rat-like habits, they have become half rat, half human.
As the current population of rats is only expanding, especially in cities, humans must imagine new ways of living together. The rat has long been the symbol of the evil character and parasite of society, the one we must live with, but don’t fully accept. Through this light, the work also explores how humans deal with such beings. The rat becomes a metaphor of “the other” and poses the question of how humans deal with “the other”.
