Installation: metal, electricity, woven strap, metal shelves, bookends, and publication.

This installation beckons the viewer to interact with it, to explore its space and to approach it. It prompts a choice—to touch or not—evoking feelings of anticipation and fear.

Underlying this work is a written piece titled Werner (Jo Ann Beard, 2007) about a man who jumps out of his burning bedroom window and across into his neighbour's. I explored the translation of this narrative in various other media and materials. As I tried to retell the story, I incidentally altered the written narrative, adding embellishments and personal touches to it.

Observing how different materialities continuously alter the original narrative, I was fascinated by how stories create themselves in an ongoing translation process, leading to various iterations.

I got drawn into working with one material – metal – exploring what that felt like—that it was both exciting and scary. Ultimately, I invite you to interact with my work and find something a little shocking within yourself as you explore your own dialogue within the dynamic.
