Prompted by his mother’s passing in November 2021, Justin Grooten adopted a walking pace that values human connection and the search for belonging in an increasingly individualistic world. ‘Hut’ displays the nurturing effect of harmonizing with nature and engaging in hands-on creation, revealing the positive impact of tactile experiences on personal well-being. It explores the interplay between holding on and letting go of life’s repetitions and rhythms, inspiring personal growth while fostering genuine connections within a communal framework.

Even though the project takes specific events as its starting point, the works are the outcome of experimentation with different mediums and materials, questing for artistic form. Using photography, wine, glass, and steel allows Grooten to make emotions such as grief, loneliness, isolation, and moments of ecstasy and change palpable without explicitly showing them. The result serves as a testament to the transformative power of self-reflection, inviting others to embark on their journey of self-discovery and uncover a sense of inner harmony.
